The book dealt with global nuclear warfare and the annihilation of mankind as a result of such warfare. A handful of individuals left standing on the beach at the Pacific shoreline ended the book. It presented an alarming future for the world if such nuclear global warfare were to ensue.
Approximately a year and a half ago another book hit the bookstores entitled, "Left Behind." It seemed every Protestant church in this city was handing out these books. A docudrama was also produced on video. The churches were showing the video to their congregations. We received a copy of the book by mail from a church with which we had no affiliation. We placed the book aside at the time because of other reading commitments.
Recently I picked up the book and read it with an open mind. When I finished reading the book and put it down, I was stunned. The book was published as a result of Biblical prophesy proving we were in the "last days;" that the end of the world was near and we had to prepare.
The book goes on to state that righteous individuals have been plucked out of the population, sent heavenward while additional righteous individuals will continue to be taken up ascending skyward. The rest will be left behind.
The book continues with Christ coming forth out of the clouds and establishing His kingdom here on earth and will reign a thousand years.
I have to admit I was thoroughly confused when I finished reading the manuscript. My first question was, what happened to those persons who were taken "heavenward" away from their families who would have no idea what happened to their family member? Would it be a form of kidnapping?
My layman's understanding of Biblical Scripture is that the Temple had to be built a third time before any type of "the end of the world" would take place. To my knowledge that has not happened yet!
Because of all the uproar over global warming, floods, famines, hurricanes, earthquakes, wars, rumors of wars along with additional rising calamities, the Biblical scholars are making pronouncements that can be very frightening to readers.
If Christ is going to establish His kingdom here on earth, then what is the name of the place the righteous who have been taken heavenward, would be living? Is that not a kingdom?
I feel there were a lot of discrepancies in this book. I do not want to sound like an unbeliever but I do like the pieces of the puzzle to fit together better than this book sets forth. If these Biblical scholars are striving to frighten people, this book does the trick!
If we are unfortunate enough to suffer a global nuclear war and the devastation that would bring to this planet, is Christ going to put everything back together again the way it was?
This book left me with more questions than answers!
I believe these books can be purchased at bookstores and Amazon.com.
