Is this really a true story or simply a work of fiction. And if it is non-fiction I cannot help but wonder what your relationship is to the story and characters. Are you the author or a friend to the author? Or would you prefer anonymity? This is fine if so.
I am apologizing for the attack you experienced after you made the above book suggestion. We welcome and encourage visitors to plug their books on BookTalk.org. The only mistake you made was in placing this suggestion in the wrong forum. Book suggestions go in the Book Suggestions, Polls & Reviews forum. So I'm moving this suggestion to the right place. Other than that slight error you did fine, and I want to thank you for the suggestion. I'm sure the individual that considered your post spam must have simply skimmed your post and thought it was something different than what it obviously is. Our Book Suggestions, Polls & Reviews forum actually has a forum description that includes, "Visitors are welcome to suggest books too." So thank you for suggesting the book! |

No I meant every word of what I said. I did not like the way this person went about things. As Mad pointed out, look at the screen name this person chose to promote a book about a topic such as this.
It was posted like 4 times and in the Freethinker section, the only other post this person made was "What a load of Rubbish" I stand by what was deleted. Mr. P. But atheism is no more a religion than not playing chess is a hobby. - Robert Sawyer - Sci Fi Author
I'm not saying it's usual for people to do those things but I(with the permission of God) have raised a dog from the dead and healed many people from all sorts of ailments. - Asana Boditharta (former booktalk troll) "The Sentient may percieve and love the universe, but the universe cannot percieve and love the sentient. The universe sees no distinction between the multitude of creatures and elements which comprise it. All are equal. None is favored...It cannot control what it creates and it cannot, it seems, be controlled by its creations (though a few might decieve themselves otherwise). Those who curse the workings of the universe curse that which is deaf. Those who strike out at those workings fight that which is inviolate. Those who shake their fists, shake their fists at blind stars." - Michael Moorcock in the "Queen of the Swords" |

After seeing all the posts I do agree with you that the author of those posts went too far and their actions could be considered spamming. I'm not sure why authors or people promoting authors/books cannot spend a few minutes and post their book plug in the appropriate forum. So I am in agreement with you that what they did was not something we want to endorse.
Any author needs to feel welcome to plug their books here though, so I will need to work on our Rules page so that it can be referenced in the future. As long as the book suggestion is made in the book suggestion forum 1 TIME and not in numerous forums then they should feel comfortable doing so. My reaction was in how you responded and not just that you responded. We have a lot in common Nick, and you enjoy speaking your mind and every given opportunity. But you cannot do so when your words completely violate the rules of the community. Even though I happen to love your posts you put me in an uncomfy position when you verbally assault people. Most of the time I am in agreement with what you're saying, but in an effort to run a civil discussion community we just cannot be so confrontational. It is bad for BookTalk. I don't know any established forums that sit back and allow such attacks. They scare away newcomers - not just the one being attacked. Hopefully this all makes sense. Right now I am going through a lot of personal crap so I am hoping we can move past this without having to argue. No community needs open verbal abuse, even when the person being abused is a complete jerk, asshat or fuckwad. We have to be more professional or we'll never grow. And please use this as an opportunity to breathe and learn (or re-learn) some self-control. I have very big plans with the NakedAtheist.com and NakedAtheism.com sites. And you are someone I am hoping to get involved on a few different levels. But I don't want the campaign to be an attack on religion and those that have faith. At least not an ad hominemish (new word) and border-line violent attack. We won't get far if we're complete jerks. I have seen your softer and gentler side and I am hoping to see it again when NakedAtheism is launched. When I talk about NakedAtheism being "launched" and "big" please understand what I am talking about. I am referring to 10's of thousands of dollars invested, media exposure, billboards, and more. And I'd like the nice Nick to be involved if we can find him again. I know he is out there somewhere. |

I am going to lock this thread and eventually delete it. This is definitely spam. Something tells me the author is getting some sexual gratification out of the story.

Ok, now that you have explained yourself I will reopen this thread. Just please post book suggestions in the Book Suggestions forum. And make one thread only. You can post repeatedly in that thread if you like, but multiple threads bumps down other threads and this isn't fair to them. The book actually looks good.

LOL I am now reading the top post where she has edited her post and calls us "insulting horrible fuckers." Why did I spend so much time on this matter? Jesus. Someone smack me.

And what is with your victim mentality? This is not about you being a female. Nobody knows you as a female or male. You're "sexylucysecy." Nobody needs to hear you whine again about how you are being picked on. Use your head. We're a community of thinkers. That is what we're all about.
Using a sexual name when making a post about extreme sexual abuse is borderline moronic. It is not clear thinking. I don't care if you use that name on eBay or if it is tattoed on your left ass cheek. It is the same as someone making a post about being the victim of racial profiling and police abuse, yet using the name, "spankmeofficer." Think, Use your head. Please don't call BookTalk members jerks again. They aren't jerks. |

BTW:
I just recvd this from 'sexylucysexy' in my personal messages: "You are a big ugly twat, with a small dick! prob beat up women your fucking knob head! you need to grow up, I'd love give a slap you small minded piece of crap " Chris, I hate to say it, but I am usually spot on with reading people. I still stand by what I originally posted. Mr. P. But atheism is no more a religion than not playing chess is a hobby. - Robert Sawyer - Sci Fi Author

I get em ALL right. People usually take some time to catch on though.

Remind me to compile a list of posts like this so we have something to look back on and laugh. Some web sites publish their funny emails and posts. We might want to do the same.
