For my part, whether or not I continue depends in very large part on whether or not there's going to be any further discussion on it. I've enjoyed the conversation more than the book, and without the promise of more talk, I'm not sure I can muster the will to pick up "The Battle for God" rather than one of the 5 or 6 other books that I'm reading at the moment.

She states that I CHOSE to not believe in god. I explained that it was not a choice, but an understanding of the truth. That after experienceing life, along with 18 years of being raised in a religious family, 12 years in Catholic school and other experiences, I just did not believe in god. We are told: "Unless we find some significance in out lives, we mortal men and women fall very easily into despair. The mythos of a society provided people with a context that made sense of their day-to-day lives; it directed their attention to the eternal and the universal"
