Hi Everyone,
I hope you will forgive my approach. I am new to this whole process, and am finding it more comfortable to my personality to voice a more generalized reaction to this book, at least this first time, although I have read and very much enjoyed all of the relevant posts to date. As I mature in this whole concept I will be more attentive to dividing up my observations on a more sectional basis.
I guess what I am most struck by is that, as a species, as far as we have...

Normally, I wouldn't consider the politics of an author relevant to a work of historical fiction, but the following piece appears to spring directly from ruminations discussed in this book.
Hi everyone!
I finished the book, and am fortunate that I have the opportunity to read for long stretches, which I know does affect the impact. It is much easier to lose the thread when one is forced to read in bits and spurts.

I found it an easier read than I had expected it would be, for some reason. (The lack of conversational punctuation did unsettle me at first, but I grew accustomed to it as I read.) Although it is my favorite genre, some historical fiction can be quite...

The flickering light adds to the feel of the book, but my eyes weren't quite up to it, had to turn on some modern light for help. I might try it again with a bigger fire, or try candle light. I don't have an oil lamp. Anyone else willing to try this?
